Exploder — the crawling acid bomb
The Exploder is one of the sequel's brand-new Xenomorph strains: a living area-denial weapon that crawls on walls and ceilings before detonating. Behavior and counters from Cold Iron's official briefing via G2A and AvP Central.
What the Exploder does
The Exploder is a new strain on the sequel's roster (AvP Central). Per the official enemy briefing (via G2A): it deals splash damage when it self-destructs, and it climbs walls and ceilings to reach you. The floor is never safe, and neither is the space above your head.
How to counter it
- Keep your spacing. The official counter is simply to maintain distance (G2A). A detonating Exploder punishes stacked squads — spread before it pops, not after.
- Shoot it early. The further it dies from your squad, the less its splash matters. Scan ceilings in chokepoints.
- Never melee it. Melee tools like stun batons (listed in official feature coverage by DSOGaming) are for other targets. Up close, you are the blast radius.
Squad tips
Exploders are the anti-turtle strain — they exist to break the corner-camping that worked in the first game. Pair that with Sirens pulling extra waves and holding one room becomes a liability. Mobile squads with a Duelist skirmisher thrive; static squads should pre-assign ceiling watch. See Horde squad builds for wave-defense comps that handle suicide rushers.
