Prowler, Spitter & Runner — the veteran strains
Three classic Xenomorph strains return alongside the Drone. Their documented behaviors come from GamingBolt's hands-on with the sequel's classes and enemies.
Prowler — the ambusher
GamingBolt's coverage lists the Prowler among returning enemies and describes its ambush behavior — it stalks and strikes from concealment rather than charging openly. Treat dark corners and ceiling spaces as Prowler territory, and keep your squad's spacing tight enough to respond when one drops in.
Spitter — the ranged acid threat
The Spitter returns as the hive's ranged attacker, lobbing acid from distance (GamingBolt). Spitters punish squads that only watch melee range: if you're tunnel-visioned on Drones, a Spitter is melting your armor from the back row. Assign someone to counter-snipe it.
Runner — the fast harasser
Runners return with their signature speed (GamingBolt) — four-legged, low-profile, and constantly repositioning. They're the strain that punishes slow-tracking heavy weapons most; tight-spread automatics from the weapons database are your answer.
How the sequel mixes them up
The sequel's Xenomorphs broadly gained mobility — wall and ceiling crawling plus sidestep dodges (GamingBolt) — so returning strains behave more evasively than veterans remember. The first game's muscle memory helps, but don't trust it blindly on Extreme and Insane.
