Warden — the lane-locking controller
The Warden is a new enemy built to dictate where your squad can stand. Its control role and the multi-angle counter come from Cold Iron's official briefing via G2A.
What the Warden does
The Warden is a new enemy type on the sequel's roster (AvP Central). Per the official enemy briefing (via G2A), the Warden is a frontline controller — it holds a lane and punishes squads that attack it head-on from a single direction.
How to counter it
- Split up. The official counter is to spread out and hit it from multiple angles (G2A). A Warden facing one corridor is doing its job; a Warden facing three is dying.
- Rotate the aggro. When it commits to one Marine's angle, the others push damage; swap as it turns.
- Don't stack behind one piece of cover. Its control kit is designed to punish exactly that habit.
Squad tips
Wardens expose squads that move as a single blob — the same habit Exploders punish. This is where four-player squads (up from three in the first game, per Wikipedia) shine: two angles are easy, three are lethal. See our squad composition guide for builds that naturally spread the field.
