1. Identify whether the official fix matches

Daybreak lists a crash when entering a Colony area with distorted audio, an Xbox host crash after selecting Play Next Mission, and repeated Xbox crashes under certain network conditions. Update first. A crash elsewhere is not automatically the same defect.

2. Preserve evidence before changing anything

  1. Record platform/storefront and installed game version.
  2. Write down the last screen, mission or action before the crash.
  3. Note whether every squad member crashed or only the host/client.
  4. Capture the exact platform error or crash identifier.

3. Use reversible platform checks

On Steam, use Steam's built-in installed-files verification. On consoles, fully close the title, confirm the system and game updates, then retry from a valid checkpoint. These are general platform diagnostics, not proven AFTE2-specific cures.

Excluded advice: we do not recommend disabling antivirus, editing the registry, deleting save data, using undocumented launch flags or downloading replacement files. No authoritative AFTE2 source retrieved for this page requires those actions.

4. Separate mission crash from network crash

A host-only failure after mission selection belongs with the Xbox Patch 1 fixes. A client disconnect or inability to form a lobby belongs in Matchmaking Not Working. The mission index records only officially named contexts.

5. Report a reproducible crash

Provide the developer with the platform, version, mission/area as displayed in-game, host/client role, squad size, repeat steps and error identifier. Do not include passwords, account tokens or unrelated personal files.

FAQ

Did Patch 1 fix every crash?

No. It documents specific crashes, not a universal stability guarantee.

Should I delete my save?

Not based on the evidence checked here. Destructive save changes are deliberately excluded.
